Aliya Frederick

Ms. Global Icon

Dr. Aliya Frederick is a dedicated Pediatric Neurologist in Southern California, fulfilling a lifelong dream she first envisioned at an early age. With unwavering commitment, Dr. Frederick earned both her medical degree and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University, followed by specialized residency and fellowship training at UC San Diego and Rady Children’s Hospital, where she now serves as faculty, training and mentoring the next generation of physicians. She is Board Certified in Neurology and Psychiatry with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology. Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Frederick is deeply engaged in clinical trials research, public speaking, mentorship, and advocacy, particularly related to health equity and disparities. As one of only 2% of physicians who identify as a Black woman, she is passionate about representation and works to inspire diverse youth to pursue careers in science and medicine, increase access to opportunities in these fields and foster mentoring relationships to create pathways to success. She is an active faculty advocate and participates in mentoring programs dedicated to the success of students and trainees of color, fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging within the medical field and workplace. In addition to her medical career, Dr. Frederick has achieved success in pageantry, holding state, national, and international titles since 2019. She has been featured in prominent publications, including the covers of Art & Beauty and Discover magazines, hosted red carpet events, appeared in commercials, walked in runway fashion shows and served as a judge for several systems. Her accomplishments have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including recognition as a San Diego Power Woman in 2022, the 2023 Global Beauty Award for Best in Science and the 2024 Global Beauty Award for Best in Healthcare from Dr. Connie Mariano. Dr. Frederick’s advocacy extends beyond medicine, as she actively encourages others to “Dream Bigger” and “Be Inspired” through pageantry. As a proud mother to her daughter Nilaja, who is the reigning Teen Regency International and a student at UCLA, Dr. Frederick remains committed to empowering others in her community and beyond. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering, traveling, and performing samba with the SoCal Sambistas. Through her work and leadership, Dr. Frederick continues to inspire those around her to reach their fullest potential.
